Robotics

The live session will help you broaden your content knowledge about robots and the role they play at NASA and in our everyday lives. You will learn how to engage students in: 1) robotics activities; 2) interactive games; 3) classroom challenges; and 4) student competitions across the K-12 spectrum.

Also, learn about NASA's Robonaut 2, or R2, serving as a robotic assistant and a functioning resident of the ISS crew. R2 arrived in February 2011 with STS -133, working alongside astronauts. R2 is an example of how robots can work alongside humans, whether they are astronauts in space or workers at manufacturing plants on Earth.

Microgravity

The microgravity environment is a fundamental consideration of space travel and life in space. Several resources and lessons introduce students to the concept of microgravity. They address commonly held misconceptions about gravity on Earth. Dynamic activities use toys, popular games, rocket launches, and design challenges to teach the science, technology, engineering and math integral to understanding microgravity and gravity environments.

Engineering Design Challenge

Radiation Experiment on the ISS: Space radiation is always a concern for astronauts on orbit. The European Space Agency's Dose Distribution inside the ISS will use various active and passive radiation detection devices to create a 3-D dose distribution map of all segments of the ISS. This will show the radiation field parameter dose and dose equivalent to assist in assessing radiation safe exposure limits and exposure health risks. The live session will recognize the value of the investigation and introduce a classroom activity on the subject.
